BCL has been awarded the £6.5m contract to construct a 9 storey hotel over basement on a site at the junction of Lavington Street and Great Suffolk Street London SE1.
The site is located in South East London (SEL) in close proximity to Southwark Tube Station and is a short walk from Waterloo Station.The building is 8 storeys above basement and will provide 4,808 m2 of accommodation. The hotel will contain 122 bedrooms from 1st floor upwards.
The ground floor will contain ancillary restaurant and office accommodation and plant will be located at basement and at roof level.
The basement is to be formed in a secant piled wall and the structure supported off a bearing piled foundation. The structural frame is to be in an insitu concrete from basement to 6th floor, clad predominantly in brick with aluminium windows and associated pressing details. The building sets back at 6th floor parapet level and the 7th and 8th floors will be in a light weight steel structure clad in a curtain walling. The site is registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
During the basement works, considerable enabling works were required to allow the basement piling to commence. Close liaision was required with Southwark Council to ensure all planning conditions were discharged.
PV panels are incorporated at 7th and 8th floor south elevation. A CHP unit provides the hot water supply The south facing bedrooms are shaded by Brise Soleil cantilevered from the brickwork.
The bulding covers the entire site which is very restricted with single access available off Great Suffolk Street, and neighbouring properties adjacent to 2 remaining sides.
