Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland New Academic & Education Building

Bennett Construction were the Main Contractor on the development of a new state of the art academic and education building on York Street in Dublin for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The new RCSI New Academic and Education Building was the largest redevelopment project in the City Centre in recent years.

The building comprised of a state of the art surgical and clinical training suite containing a flexible wet lab, mock operating theatre, clinical training wards, standardised patients rooms and task training rooms.

It also included a 540 seat auditorium, a library spanning three floors with 500 study spaces, a sports hall and fitness suite.

The gross floor area of the proposed building was approx. 12,000m2 and was constructed primarily of insitu concrete frame with structural steel elements incorporated from basement minus 4 (B-4) to 5th floor.

The new Third Level Education Building was built upon the site of a previous uncompleted scheme which contained a basement box element only which was incorporated into the new development.

The project featured in RTE's documentary  - Dermot Bannon's Big Build in October 2017.

The project won Best Educational/Healthcare project at the 2018 ICE Awards, the best Building Project at the 2018 Irish Concrete Society Awards, and also the RIAI Public Choice Awards at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2018.
